SILEX USB and Serial Device Server compatible with VMware ESX and Server
Device Servers from SILEX enable the use of USB devices and serial equipment under VMware for the first time ever.
Up until now hardware-based end devices such as smart card readers, USB sticks, dongles and modems could not be connected to virtual machines under VMware as the operating system did not support access to physical ports.
Thanks to the USB and Serial Device Server from SILEX this has been made possible in a very stable and simple manner: the SILEX servers provide USB ports and serial ports in the network which can be used through virtual drivers or serial emulators (SPE) as if the end devices were connected locally. Through this there are no more barriers to using dongle-protected software, printer/scanner functions and fax services via USB ISDN adapters under VMware.
The product families from SILEX offer the perfect solution for any VMware application:

New SX-560: Smart programmable WLAN module
Energy-saving wireless modules with 802.11a/b/g standard for integrated OEM applications.
The new WLAN module ‘SX-560’ from SILEX was developed especially for demanding individual OEM applications and supports all the main wireless network standards: 802.11a/b/g. As a result OEM devices can be quickly and simply extended to include wireless network functions. Through the lower current consumption – max 210 mA at 3.3V+/-10%, plus Deep Sleep mode – the module is ideal for battery-operated portable devices.
The SX-560 is equipped with a Linux operating system with a user-defined programming option – users can easily extend their OEM devices to include new specific functions. With a 200MHz 32-bit processor, 16 MB of RAM and 8 MB of flash memory, the module offers sufficient capacity for supporting even complex user applications. The compact module has a USB 1.1 interface and two serial ports for connection to RS-232, UART or SPI interfaces on the OEM devices. There are also nine multipurpose I/Os available for user-defined applications. Extensive administration and security functions at the company level guarantee a maximum level of security for data transfer in networks.
The separately available developer’s kit ‘SX-560-6900’ supports the development and test process: the development board, a universal power supply unit and all the necessary antennas, cables and accessory parts are included.
Models (available from July):
SX-560-1701 Smart programmable WLAN module
SX-560-6900 Development board

New SX-350: Internal OEM print server with 802.11a/b/g standard
The easiest way to extend OEM devices to include highly developed print functions in a network.
The new SX-350 series from SILEX is an internal OEM solution for trouble-free networking of printers in wireless and/or wired networks. Because a simple 40-pole Centronics-/IEEE 1284-compatible flat ribbon cable is used for internal connection to the printer, only minimal changes need to be made to the hardware and firmware on the OEM devices. The serial UART port (RS-232) is used for configuration of the print server without connection to a network and can be used as an interface to the configuration system.
The wireless/wired model supports automatic detection of 10Base-T/100Base-TX Ethernet connections as well as wireless networks in accordance with the 802.11a/b/g standard. Thus portable printers can be networked and installed at locations where connecting with cables would be difficult or not possible.
Both models – wired and wireless/wired – work with the usual operating systems (Windows, Macintosh, UNIX, Linux, Open VMS, OS/400) and are compatible with all commonly used print protocols (TCP/IP [lpr/lpd, IPP], NetWare, AppleTalk, NetBIOS/NetBEUI and DLC/LLC).
Highly developed security functions including 802.1X authentication (TLS, TTLS, PEAP, LEAP, and FAST), configuration passwords and access control lists as well as all security protocols for wireless networks (WPA2(-PSK), WPA(-PSK), WEP) protect data transfer against unauthorised access and complete the integrated OEM print solution.
Models (available immediately):
SX-350-0011 Wired OEM Internal Print Server
SX-350-1011 Wireless/Wired OEM Internal Print Server
