Dear Customers, Vendors and Supporters of Silex Technology,
Many of you have contacted us to inquire what affect the massive earthquake in East Japan may
have had on our company and most importantly our staff. We deeply appreciate your concerns
regarding our staff, our friends and the country as a whole. We are happy to let you know that
our direct staff and families are safe. We would like to let you know some details in the hours
after the event and the status of our business as of today.
Immediately following the earthquake we had difficulties communicating with the Tokyo office,
our sales unit in Japan, for some time, but we were eventually able to confirm the safety of all
the STI staff and their families. It was reported that some Tokyo staff spent the night in the office,
others at an exhibit hall and others walked back home as all the transportation companies
ceased their services in Tokyo. Our office building did suffer some damage but it appears not to
be a cause for concern.
At our main facility in Kyoto, West Japan (about 400 miles South and West of the worst hit area),
we did feel some tremors but there was no interruption in our activities or damage to our building.
Our facility is operating as normal and we are continuing to run our manufacturing without
interruption. In the days ahead we are contacting our suppliers to obtain information regarding
any potential impact on our production in April onwards. Should our supply chain be impacted
we will move swiftly to minimize or avert any impact to our operations. In the days and weeks
ahead as the country moves forward we will keep a watchful eye direct or indirect events that
may impact our ability to provide the products and services you depend on. We will continually
work to keep the communications open so you can be kept aware of the situation.
At this fragile time your thoughts, prayers and support are greatly appreciated.
Cordially,
David N. Smith Christoph Grüten
