Virtual environments
Benefits of a USB Dongle Server
You are able to use any kind of USB device in the virtual machine, even if no local USB port or support for USB is available at all.
Supported virtual environments:
The virtual USB driver and SX-Virtual Link is available for all the Microsoft server operating systems from Windows Server 2000 up to Server 2003 and Server 2008, also the 64bit Versions (R2) are supported. Virtual Invironments like VMWare ESX/ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V, Xen Server or any other cloud computing system is supported. Also VMWare workstation, Microsoft virtual PC and Parallels is supported.
You can install SX-VL as a service or just use the skript based version to establish the connection based on a time schedule. Sharing one single dongle license around the world via VPN gets possible, because of course the SX-3000GB also supports routed networks.
Exampels for USB devices you might want to use on a virtual machine:
This starts with simple USB devices like a mouse or a USB keyboard. Many users need high availablility for their dongle protected systems. They want to use USB document scanners, simple USB printers, some kind of measurement devices for time and attendance recording. There is basically no limit and you can finaly also virtualise those systems.
Encryption and security:
The configuration of the SX-3000GB is password protected, the USB protocol over IP can not get captured and analyzed as easy as normal HTTP TCP traffic for example, so encryption on this connection is not necessary in most cases and would just cost speed.
