Why do you need a USB Device Server to share a dongle?
It is a common request to use a software protection USB dongle over the network or in virtual environments that just don't have support for USB.
The SX-3000GB is the perfect solution for this scenario. It enables you to use your USB dongle over the network. You can store the dongle at a safe location and protect it from getting stolen, lost, damanged or just to be sure about the location of the dongle all the time.

Benefits of a USB Device Server to make a dongle available over the network:
You don't need to worry that people can't work anymore if a dongle protected software stops working because the dongle is not available.
There are security mechanisms available that enable you to allow only certain IP addresses to access the USB devices.

How it works:
The virtual USB driver and SX-Virtual Link is available for all the Microsoft server operating systems from Windows Server 2000 up to Server 2003 and Server 2008, also the 64bit Versions (R2) are supported. Virtual Invironments like VMWare ESX/ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V, Xen Server or any other cloud computing system is supported.

You can install SX-VL as a service or just use the skript based version to establish the connection based on a time schedule. Sharing one single dongle license around the world via VPN gets possible, because of course the SX-3000GB also supports routed networks.

Encryption and security:
The configuration of the SX-3000GB is password protected, the USB protocol over IP can not get captured and analyzed as easy as normal HTTP TCP traffic for example, so encryption on this connection is not necessary in most cases and would just cost speed.

Example for usage:
This picture shows the SX-3000GB Gigabit USB Device Server with a software dongle from DATEV.
We are using one of our device servers to connect the dongle to a Windows Server running on a VMWare ESX in our own office. This solution is already tested with many other dongles, from CAD applications to accounting software for warehouses, PBX, reading truck driver data from cards or just expensive 3D rendering software or scanner OCR software. So far all applications worked fine.
The SX-30000GB is the perfect solution. Also DATEV had that impression and recommends our devices.
This solution is in use in our office since February 2008 and is tested to be working.

The SX-3000GB is a USB 2.0 HiSpeed USB Device Server with Gigabit Ethernet. The device has 2 USB ports and supports up to 15 USB connections with a USB hub. (Hub also counts as at least one connection).
